Research Interests:

My students and I use combinations of controlled experiments and observational studies in stream ecosystems to increase understanding of how they function and how they respond to various disturbances. We are particularly interested in a group of taxa known as meiofauna, a size class of 80 - 1000 micrometers - comparable to plankton, that were neglected by stream ecologists until recently. We also are interested in cave ecosystems, and especially the rare & endangered species that occur there.
